YMCA of Valparaiso,
Indiana: Pool Repairs
As part of the construction of a
new YMCA in Valparaiso, an aquatic facility was built. During the
construction of the lap pool, an unexpected circumstance occurred which
required the general contractor, Tonn & Blank, to subcontract with Thatcher
Foundations for the emergency installation of sheet piling.
For this design-build project,
Thatcher installed 2 walls of sheet piling, 47 feet and 38 feet, in a low
headroom environment, using specialty limited access equipment. All design
and installation was completed on a fast-track basis, in order to limit
delays to the overall project schedule, and disruption to the general
contractor and other subcontractors. Thatcher was able to limit
pre-construction time by using sheet piling from its own stock and having
our local employees cut it to size in our Gary, Indiana yard.
Despite
the accelerated schedule and tight working space, Thatcher was able to
complete the project with zero OSHA recordable accidents, and no equipment
or property damage.
